Events, 2023

WORKSHOPS & EVENTS CALENDAR,

Poetry is knowledge, salvation, power, abandonment. An operation capable of changing the world, poetic activity is revolutionary by nature; a spiritual exercise, it is a means of interior liberation. Poetry reveals this world; it creates another.                                                             -Octavio Paz

THE MAGIC OF THE POETIC LINE

w/Sawnie Morris

Description: We have come through, and are not yet done with, difficult times. It’s good to remember we all descend from ancestors who survived eras in history as bad or worse –-  ancestors starting with the tiny microbes that clustered to shape the organisms that evolved into who we are now, as well as into the plants and animals who are our distant, yet entirely present, kin. Such a creative journey is intrinsic to our very make-up and is always a matter of exploring forms that provide resilience and give the life force expression. Tat expression may be as gentle and quiet as a lily pad, as internal as a worm, as stately as a big horned sheep, or as active as a tiger, but the dynamism of the earth and the cosmos sings in each.  In this workshop, we will explore a range of forms –– traditional  as well as free-verse –– and approaches through which the poetic imagination may express itself. Each week, you’ll receive poems and prompts to inspire and to use as you wish in the making of your own poems, along with craft notes. Each week we’ll share our poems with one another in a generous, respectful, and informed workshop format, with brief written comments on your poems from Sawnie and the opportunity to meet with her during “office hours.” Each week we will open ourselves to the presence and the resilience of the poetic imagination.
